Somalia

The Netherlands policy for Somalia is mainly focused on humanitarian assistance in both the Transitional Federal Republic of Somalia as in Somaliland. The Dutch humanitarian assistance is mostly compatible with the policy formulated by the Crises Policy Framework of the Netherlands Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The Netherlands government has allocated 6 million Euro for Somalia for 2007 of which approximately 30% have been reserved for NGO proposals and 70% for programs of UN agencies. Priority is given to the following sectors: water & sanitation, food and health care. More information with regard to the Crises Policy Framework can be obtained from the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (www.minbuza.nl).

The European Union African Peace Facility Fund with the support of the Netherlands government will allocate an additional 15 million Euro to the African Peace Support Operation in Somalia (AMISOM).

The Netherlands asylum policy vis-à-vis Somalia is formulated in the Country Report for Somalia, a bi-annual report in which the situation with regard to political, humanitarian, human rights and security issues is assessed. These reports are made public and can be obtained from the website of the Netherlands ministry for Foreign Affairs (Externe link www.minbuza.nl).
